Pond Aeration
ATT offers complete pond aeration systems. Our systems are engineered to eliminate algae, reduce particulates, eliminate the sludge layer, drastically improve water clarity, and create a consistent level of dissolved oxygen throughout the entire pond.
Why Aeration?
1. Creates a consistent oxygen level throughout the water column.
A non-aerated pond will have an anoxic zone towards the lower half of the water level. The anoxic zone is loaded with anaerobic bacteria. The anaerobic bacteria very slowly breakdown organic compounds on the pond floor creating Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) recognizable by it “rotten egg” smell. Hydrogen sulfide is a very poisonous gas as well as a nuisance if the pond is used for irrigation or potable water. Proper aeration will eliminate the anoxic zone, thus, eliminating anaerobic bacteria and hydrogen sulfide.
2. Reduces the Sludge Layer.
A sludge layer is a layer of “muck” on the bottom of a pond. Sludge layers consist of rotten organic matter and sediment. Organic matter comes from fallen leaves, grass clippings, dead algae, and dead fish. Over the years a sludge layer can build up and reduce the depth of your pond by several feet! Our aeration systems will reduce and ultimately eliminate the sludge layer by supporting beneficial aerobic bacteria growth. Aerobic bacteria consumes organic material many times faster than anaerobic bacteria.
3. Eliminates Algae and Keeps it from Growing Back!
Aeration eliminates algae by destroying it’s food source. We will super oxygenate the pond and break down all of the organics which will starve the algae! By eliminating all organics in the pond not only will we starve the existing algae, but we will prevent it from ever coming back!
4. Restores Clarity.
By removing the algae, organic loading, and toxic decomposition on the pond floor you will have a perfectly healthy pond that is crystal clear! You will notice clarity improvements in weeks!
